Proper Way to Pin on a Corsage

I have been told a corsage should be pinned with flowers(s) pointing down. Others say the flowers should be pinned with the stems pointing down. Which is correct? How about boutonnieres?

Many years ago, flowers were pinned with the flowers pointed down, however, in the last 20 years, this has changed to pinning with the stems pointing down. The same with boutonnieres.

It probably depends on the age of the person but also may depend on the style of the corsage or boutonnieres. Many are designed to show the stems.

Added Note from another florist:

Most people pin corsages too low on the chest. They should gently curve over the collar bone not pinned on the breast area. A lady should be able to turn her head slightly and inhale the scent of the floral bouquet she is wearing. She cannot do this if the flowers are pinned low on her chest. Also, if you give that slight curve to it, then gravity doesn't pull as bad and they don't end up with big pin holes in the delicate dress fabric.
